Warlord Games has some awesome metal figures.  One of their hands down, best lines, is their US Airborne troops.  These highly detailed figures are outstanding.  I can't say enough about how much I love these figures.

The SDKFZ 247 Aust B was a short run German recognisance vehicle during WW2.  It was small, it was fast and I definitely wanted one... or two for my late war German army.

Today we are going to have a look at the stunning Warlord Games Duplex Drive Sherman kit.  The Duplex Drive Sherman (or DD Sherman) were modified Shermans, used by the British, Canadians and Americans to be able to invade the beaches of Normandy.  They used a flotation screen and propellers to make them amphibious and were able to be deployed at sea from landing craft.

The Calliope mount used on US Sherman tanks were not the only attempts by the US military to mount their M8 rocket system onto a mobile platform.  They also mounted them onto the backs of 2 1/2 ton trucks and even onto some Jeeps, although these were rarer.

The rules presently below are unofficial additional units to allow you to incorporate these unique units into your armies for games against friends.

Today we are taking a look at the Warlord Games M3A1 Half-track plastic kit.  This 2 sprue kit allows you to make the M3A1 Half-track that was used by US forces.  The M5 Half-track used by the British is slightly different but at this scale you could easily get away with using a M3A1 for your Commonwealth forces.

Sourcing Soviet HMGs for all their uses!

An oft asking question on the Bolt Action forums and facebook pages is, where can I get a HMG for my Soviets?  A pintle HMG is an available upgrade for some of the popular big Soviet vehicles, like the IS-2, ISU-122 and the SU-122/152s.  Then there is the HMG Team support weapon choice and HMG Jeeps.  You could be forgiven in thinking every second Russian was toting a HMG.

He's just getting warmed up.

Review: Warlord Games Metal Fallschirmjager

By now, everyone knows that Warlord Games is planning on releasing plastic Fallschirmjager later this year.  While this news is super exciting for anyone interested in building a German para force, it will require players to build their army using a multi-part plastic kit.  Some people don't mind building an army out of plastics, but other can't stand it.  I find building plastics a necessary evil because I usually have to come up with a million excuses at work as to why my fingers are covered in superglue.   If given the choice I would rather buy metals so I can get straight to painting.  Luckily Warlord also has some fantastic metal Fallschirmjager.  I got my hands on a squad of eight and a MG-42 to go with my small Fallschirjager force from Foundry miniatures.

Bolt Action AAR: D-Day Action

The last month or so has been super busy so I was not able to put on the multi-day D-Day mega game I had planned in my head.  Instead Colby came over and we had a Normandy themed game between my new US Airborne army and his Germans.  Since Brad's Heartbreak Ridge mission is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread with vegemite, (hot damn!  that good! - Anf) we played it again.   Both of us were running infantry platoons.  I ran a single platoon, while Colby ran two platoons.  We also used the draft season two format rules, which were awesome.

The T34 Calliope Rocket attachment from Warlord Games

The T34 Calliope system was developed for the US Army in 1943 to provide devastating firepower by mounting rocket tubes to the top of the M4 Medium tank. There were 60 tubes, each capable of firing a single 4.5 inch rocket to a maximum range of 4000 meters. The 4.5 inch rocket was designated as the M8 and by the end of the war 2.5 million rockets had been made. The rocket was considered as a barrage weapon due to the inaccuracy but when you can fire 60 of them who needs accuracy right?

A lot of us have seen the Matchbox Jeeps, that people use as Jeeps for their allied armies, posted up all over the Bolt Action community.  Not as common, for quite a while there has been sporadic talk of a cheap toy Panzer 38(t) that was suitable scale for Bolt Action use.  I first remember hearing about them from a forum user, Heychadwick, at least 12 months ago, but never got around to chasing them up.

Well folks, I finally have and boy am I glad I did.

Our group is preparing for a tournament at the end of summer and are also wetting our Format Season Two toes.  We got together for Fallschirjager vs Screeming Eagles airborne battle royal.  I recently finished a small Fallschirjager force and wanted to run them.  I also wanted to run them with a captured Sherman.  I paid for a Panzer IV and used a Sherman 76 during the game.  Eventually I am going to get a Sherman and painted it with a cross for my Germans.

Alright Barbarians its finally here, Bolt Action Season 2.  We poured through you feedback and suggestions, edited, reedited, and for good measure reedited again to make sure that it is as clear as a Gin and Tonic.   We are really excited about the changes this season with fixed weapons and armored transports getting a little love.  We have been play testing and playing nothing but Season 2 for the last two months up here in Alaska and we are totally loving it.  My favorite part is the increased usefulness of infantry medium machine guns.  This season will be up through the end of the year and we would love to hear from you throughout the Season on how the rules are working.  Either leave a post in the forum or contact one of the crew directly through the forum.  As always enjoy and may the dice be with you.

The British A9 Cruiser Tank

The British A9 Cruiser Mk1tank was designed in the 1930's as a fighting vehicle that would be fast, lightly armed and armoured and would have the role of striking behind enemy lines at vital strategic assets like supply lines. It was also designed and built during the Great Depression and had many cost saving measures with a maximum armour thickness of only 14mm. Its greatest asset however was its top speed of 25mph and the new high velocity QF 2-pounder gun.

Welcome to another step by step painting guide, this time I've chosen a very exotic unit, the Moroccan Goumiers of the French army. This is actually the first squad for a future project, the French Expeditionary Corp in Italy. The miniatures themselves are from the Artizan Designs range. These are fantastic miniatures and are a pleasure to paint. Let's see how to do it...
