This is another new mission I have been working on.  Since it is currently in a Beta stage, I am trying to get feedback from the BARbarian community.  Let me know what you think and if you play the mission how it goes.  It should be noted the inspiration for this missions comes from the Dust Up scenario from Flames of War.

While your force rushes forward to capture and objective, your opponent counter attacks toward an objective of their own.

Gorgon Studios French Foreign Legion Review

A few weeks back I was checking out some of the Bolt Action online world and my attention was drawn to a new series of French Foreign Legion miniatures by a company I was not familiar with. The company is called Gorgon Studios and runs out of the US. It stocks various ranges of 28mm including Spartans and Old West amongst others but most importantly for us have a World War 2 range!

The range includes British, Norwegians, Germans, Poles and French Foreign Legion (FFL). Now remove yourself from the impression of Legionaries only in Kepi's roaming a desert trailing an empty water bottle, as the 13th Demi Brigade fought a campaign in Norway in an attempt to keep the Germans from the vital Norwegian ports. In 10 days the French forces pushed the Germans back to almost the Swedish border however the collapse of the French in the Battle of France forced their withdrawal back to England.

Tanks in the New Pin Environment

By now most of you have seen Warlord's latest FAQ and heard the buzz created by the new vehicle pinning mechanics it has added to the rules.  If by chance you haven't heard, veteran enclosed armoured vehicles now only suffer pins from heavy weapons that can at least cause superficial damage to them, and regulars have a 50% chance of ignoring the same weak hits, each time they are shot.

My Early War German Army

Recently I was finishing up with my early war, Battle of France, French army and was looking at another project - something complimentary to my French - and as such I could hardly look past Blitzkrieg Germans. I decided to keep in-theme and loosely base them off the order of units used in the Battle of France and so I reached out and ordered some early war, jackboot wearing Heer and waited for them to arrive.

The team all assembled ready for the invasion.

Hey guys, Anfernee back with a special scenario AAR in honour of the paratroopers who dropped into France in the early hours of D-Day.  Not modeled after a specific battle, this scenario sees 1000 points of veteran Canadian Paras assault a small village on an important crossroads and then set up a blockade to prevent a convoy of German reinforcements heading to bolster the defenses along the coast.

This year D-Day fell on a Friday, which meant a beach landing game was in order.  My buddy Joe and I spent the last month collecting bunkers, obstacles, landing craft, and other terrain items for the game.  We formulated a plan and got everything ready for action.  After it was all ready, I had seven dudes over for an epic night of beach landings.

Old Man Morin Takes a Closer Look At Brigade Game's Finns

Well, it appears as though Hell has frozen over.  I, Old Man Morin, have finished my Germans and have moved onto my next epic project: Winter themed Finns.  Just prior to WW2 breaking out, Finland was invaded by the much larger and technologically advanced Soviet masses.  In what was later called the "Winter War," determined Finnish forces (aided by horrific winter conditions) fought a guerrilla style war and eventually succeeded in stopping the Russians in their tracks.  Listeners of the LRDG cast will know that I fell in love with the fighting spirit of these bad-asses and set about creating an army that would be fun to play and would look great on the table.

I have not figured out the Snow on the bases yet so they are just painted white (for now)

Speakeasy episode 24 starts off with a Baxter and Judson segment. Equal parts NeckBeard and MarkDawg, they delve into a bit of the history and the game rules of the Kangaroo armored carriers, Baxter's cavalry and other shop subjects in between. The second segment finds DaveOwaR and Judson tearing into the possibilities the updated errata and FAQ have provided. Want to get gamey enough to disappoint your friends and loved ones? This is the segment for you!

(For those that don't know, subscriptions provide access to all WWPD premium content, and Speakeasy represents just a fraction of the whole. - Judson)

Since the moment I picked up my first dice and sent it rolling onto a table stacked with toy soldiers, I have known the value of nice terrain; not so much value in dollars but what value it adds to gameplay. Just like I can't bring myself to play with unpainted miniatures, I also have big issues in playing on a table that is not aesthetically pleasing.

Hosting Large Multi-Player or Convention Games

There is nothing worse than paying hard earned hobby money on a convention, then sitting through four hours of hell because of a poorly planned multi-player game. The same can go for large garage games with multiple friends. The most common problem I see in large group games is players sitting around not engaged with nothing to do. Nothing to do is a quick way to ensure no one has a good time. This can go for any game system, but is particularly true for Bolt Action which relies on a random activation mechanism. When I first read the Bolt Action rules I was hesitant to get into the game because of bad convention experiences I have had with random activation games. There is nothing worse than waiting an hour to move your unit. However during one on one play, random activation does not result in you sitting around doing nothing while other players go; but once you introduce more than two players the risk for boredom can become high. So, what is a GM to do?

LRDG Episode 16

LRDG 16! Kicking things off in the first segment, Bryan, Brad, Tobu, Lachlan, Anfernee, and a can of Wild Turkey talk about the latest errata and FAQ update. They also get after the French Foreign Legion, not forgetting to include the honorable Jean-Claude Van Damme in the discussion. At some point in the first segment, Anfernee's secret identity is revealed to the world, while Brad continues his shameful refusal to use a Sturmtiger. Rounding out the first portion of the show, the boys talk about the new German metal boxes and the fancy German weaponry that's included. In the second half, Patch, DaveOwaR, and Brad talk about Senegalese troops, buying skis for your Finnish troops (and Finland forces in general), swapping Soviet and Finnish models, and gigantic tanks. A tasty episode covering all the Bolt Action bases!
